Šihāb al-Din al-Suhrawardī (d. 587/1191), philosopher and mystic, has developed a theory of knowledge by simple direct, visionary, and intuitive presence. This theory is rooted in a theory of the physical vision.
Mateus Domingues da Silva is Brazilian and lives in Cairo.
PhD in Arabic studies, he works on the Islamic intellectual history, and, more precisely, on philosophical topics, but also topics involving sources from Islamic Theology and Mysticism.
His area of interest is the reception of Avicenna’s metaphysics among some philosophers in the 6/12ᵗʰ and 7/13ᵗʰ centuries. His main research focuses on Suhrawardī al-Maqtūl’s (d. 587/1191) works.
Mateus is the Director of the IDEO’s library since May 2021. He is pursuing, for the academic year 2021‒2022, a specialization in library sciences in Paris.
